Arvind Agarwal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) at the Florida International University (FIU), Miami, FL. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1999 and B. Tech and M. Tech from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur in 1993 and 1995, respectively. His current research interests include carbon nanotube reinforced metal and ceramic nanocomposites, bioceramics, nanomechanics of nano and biological materials, multi-scale tribology, surface engineering, thermal spray and near net shape processing. He has published nearly 150 technical articles, including 100 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals and 3 edited books. He received the prestigious CAREER award from National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2006. He also received "FIU Outstanding Researcher" award in 2008 and 2009, and TMS Young Leader Internship Award 2004. Arvind serves on numerous committees of TMS and ASM and also on the Editorial Boards of six journals. Arvind is the Founding Faculty Advisor to ASM/TMS (now Material Advantage) student chapter at FIU. Arvind worked as a Materials Scientist in Plasma Processes, Inc., Huntsville, Alabama from 1999-2002.
