Ed Murphy currently works for JDSU’s Communication and Commercial Optical Products Division where he focuses on Advanced Technology Planning and Intellectual Property matters. He has been with JDSU since 1999, previously serving in various roles such as Vice President of Development, Electro-optic Products Division; General Manager, Electro-optic Products Division; and Group Chief Technology Officer, Components and Modules Division. Prior to joining JDSU, Dr. Murphy worked at AT&T/Lucent Bell Labs where he held a variety of technical staff and management positions. At Bell, he worked in a variety of technology areas including high speed modulation, optical switching, optical packaging, wafer processing, planar lightguide circuits, optical transmitters and receivers, and optical amplifiers. Dr. Murphy received a BS in Chemistry from Boston College and a PhD in chemical physics from MIT. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, as well as a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. He has authored over 50 technical talks and papers and several book chapters; in addition, he has been awarded 13 patents and has edited a book on integrated optics.
