A research scientist in the area of micro- and nanotechnology, Ben Rogers' research interests encompass scanning probe microscopy, chemical and biological sensors, nanotube-based devices, and engineering education.

Mr. Rogers has conducted research at Nanogen, Inc., Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and as part of the Nanomechanics Research Group at the University of Nevada. He is co-author of Nanotechnology: Understanding Small Systems (CRC Press), a first-of-its kind, comprehensive textbook on nanotechnology. He is an author on numerous technical papers and two patents pending and has served a reviewer for scientific and educational journals, as well as the National Science Foundation.

At Sierra Vision Launch (Reno, Nevada), he served as a member of the due diligence team where he analyzed, advised, and mentored start-up companies seeking acceptance into a business accelerator program. Other duties included performing market research and personnel interviews, evaluation of new technologies and business plans. He has also worked as a staff writer for the Sparks Tribune, the Nevada Silver and Blue, Reno News & Review, and the Las Vegas Review Journal, and has received literary arts grants for his fiction from the Sierra Arts Foundation and the Nevada Arts Council.

Mr. Rogers currently serves as the principal engineer at a start-up company, Nevada Nanotech Systems, Inc., working to commercialize microcantilever sensor technology.

Education

Mr. Rogers graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2001) and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2002), both from the University of Nevada, Reno.
