Spintronics is the science and technology of using the spin degree of freedom of a charge carrier, either singly, or in conjunction with the charge degree of freedom, to store, process, sense and communicate data and information. Dr. Supriyo Bandyopadhyay, a leader in sprintronics since the mid-1990s, discusses how spintronics can push the limits now facing conventional electronics. He also outlines how spintronics is today's technology, and shares early successes of spintronics to power laptops and even the Apple iPod. He also previews the content to be featured in Introduction to Spintronics, one of the first books in the field.
