NIU’s Dr. Rathindra Bose.a visionary behind the Institute for Nanoscience, Engineering and Technology (InSET), move to Ohio University.

Bose will serve as OU’s new vice president for research and creative activity and dean of the graduate college, starting July 1.

While at NIU, Bose created a landmark partnership between the school and the DOE’s Argonne National Laboratory, which led to the creation of a Ph.D. program in nanoscience and engineering at NIU. Bose also helped to create an interdisciplinary institute for nanoscience and engineering, and contributed to efforts that boosted NIU’s external funding for research and sponsored programs from $45 million to $61 million (34%),

"We're fortunate to have recruited a candidate who has strong administrative experience in advancing both the research and graduate missions of the institution," OU Executive Vice President and Provost Kathy Krendl said in a statement.

Bose, who received a Ph.D. in chemistry from Georgetown University in 1982, plans to continue his research on developing a new generation of cancer drugs. He will hold a tenured professorship in OU medical college's Department of Biomedical Sciences, with a joint appointment in the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Chemistry.
