University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC)
The Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST) was established in 2001 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as the premier institution for nanoscale science and technology initiatives.
CNST draws its strength working as a collaboratory towards seamless integration of interdisciplinary research from atoms and materials to devices and systems. The Center is uniquely located to harness the entrepreneurial and technical spirit in downstate Illinois and is also embarking on developing a curriculum for nanotechnology education, which will transcend a number of campus departments and units. Research areas include:
- Molecular Gating for Nanofluidic Control
- Applying Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) for Nanotechnology Applications (M4N)
- Continuum Studies of Carbon Nanotubes
- Directed Nanoscale Self-Assembly using Amorphous Semiconductors
- Sonochemical Synthesis of Nanomaterials
- Re)Engineering of Nanoparticle Gene Delivery Vehicles
- Fabrication and characterization of nanowires and their application to nanoscale devices
- Study of charged liquid cluster beam (CLCB) generation and application to nanoscale science and technology
