Dr. Ruth Pachter, a member of the scientific and technical cadre of senior executives, is Senior Scientist, Computational Materials Science and Engineering, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Dr. Pachter’s research addresses challenging theoretical and computational problems for quantitative predictions and understanding of materials properties, with focus on the development of materials for Air Force applications, including laser protection requirements. Dr. Pachter also serves as Chief Scientist, Advanced Computational Analysis Directorate, Aeronautical Systems Center.

Dr. Pachter has conducted research in computational chemistry and materials science for more than 30 years. She is known for her research in theoretical studies of molecular materials properties, ranging from quantum mechanical calculations, large-scale atomistic simulations, to methodology and algorithmic developments, utilizing effectively high-performance computing.

Dr. Pachter is author and co-author of more than 110 archival journal papers and book chapters, including invited articles. She co-edited two books, presented more than 60 invited lectures, served on three international journal editorial boards, as well as on a number of conference program committees and advisory technical committees, and was organizer or co-organizer of numerous national and international symposia and workshops. Dr. Pachter has also served as thesis adviser, and she is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, Air Force Institute of Technology.
