He started his professional career in 1971 at the Mechanical Department in the Institute of Agriculture as a scientist. In 1979, he continued his research at the Institute of Applied Physics as a Senior Science Researcher. His R&D activities were devoted to different aspects of friction and wear of materials, in particular, coatings and thin films, deformation and fracture of surface layers, and effect of lubricants. From the beginning of the 1980’s, he was the Head of the Laboratory of Tribology at the Institute of Applied Physics.
In January 1990, Rapoport immigrated to Israel, and started his work at the Holon Academic Institute of Technology (HAIT), Faculty of Science, as a Lecturer. He founded the Tribology Laboratory at HAIT. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Science, and Head of the Tribology Laboratory and the Center of Materials Engineering. Prof. Rapoport is President of Tribology Council in Israel.

His scientific fields Include:
• Friction and Wear of Metals and Ceramics
• Friction and Wear of Fullerene-Like Nanoparticles
• The effect of vacuum arc deposition parameters of the adhesion strength hard nitride coatings
• Stick-slip Phenomena

He was a principal investigator in several research grants sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Science and the Bi-national Israel-USA Fund. Now he received new project – Application of nanoparticles and textured surfaces for improvement the tribological properties of contact pairs sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Science. Rapoport is the author of 70 publications.

Education

Lev Rapoport received his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969 from the Kishinev Politechnique Institute and his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1978 from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Moldavian Academy of Sciences Kishinev.
