Professor David J Schiffrin is a graduate of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. He obtained his PhD at Birmingham University in 1965 on interfacial electrochemistry. He has held a number of academic and industrial posts and joined the University of Liverpool in 1990. His research activities are in physical and applied electrochemistry, and in high pressure physical chemistry, with particular interests in two-phase electrochemistry, optical sensors, reflectance spectroscopy, bioelectrochemistry, silicon electrochemistry, and optical and electrical properties of nanostructured materials. Professor Schiffrin is married, with two children and lives in Hoylake. His hobbies include music, good weather cycling and walking in the Welsh mountains
