Dr. Atsushi Takahara is a professor in the Department of Applied Molecular Chemistry at Kyushu University's Institute for Materials Chemistry and Engineering. His research interests include physical properties of polymer thin films, nano-fabrication of polymeric materials, surface and interface science of organic solids, and (organic/inorganic) nanohybrids.

He is an editor of Composite Interfaces (VCH), an associate editor of Polymer Journal (SPSJ), and editorial boards of Polymer Bulletin and Journal of Biomaterals Science, Polymer Edition (VCH).

Dr. Takahara is also a fellow of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan, The Society of Fiber Science and Technology, Japan, and the Materials Research Society, Japan.

He received his Ph.D. of Polymer Science in 1983 from Kyushu University, JAPAN. Immediately thereafter, he joined Kyushu University, where he worked as an assistant professor for two years and became an associate professor. In 1999, he was appointed as a professor of Institute for Fundamental Research of Organic Chemistry(IFOC), Kyushu University and from 2003, he is a professor of Institute for Materials Chemistry and Engineering(IMCE), Kyushu University.

Career Highlights

Since 2004, Dr. Atsushi Takahara has served as a program officer of Research Center for Science Systems, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and from 2005, a member of the Science Council of Japan. He received several awards including Young Researcher Award, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan (1988), 3 Sakurada Award, The Society of Fiber Science and Technology, Japan (1993), Rheology Award, Japanese Society of Rheology(1995), Fiber Society Scientific Award, The Society of Fiber Science and Technology, Japan (1999), Bulletin of Chemical Society of Japan, Award, The Chemical Society of Japan (2002), Polymer Science Award, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan (2003), and Nakamae Award, The Society for Interface Materials Science(SIMS), Japan (2005).
