Dr. Gertner trained in General Surgery at UCSF where, during his residency, he became interested in the power of nanotechnology to address unmet clinical needs.

He founded Nanomedical Technologies and advanced a novel drug coating process through proof of concept, after which it was acquired and is now in the pre-clinical testing stages. For this effort, he was named one of the top 100 Innovators under 35 by Technology Review Magazine. His current efforts are focused on teaching the process of innovation to surgeons at Stanford and furthering nanotechnology-based medical science.

Dr. Gertner was trained in mechanical engineering at Columbia and MIT, then in Medicine at Cornell Medical College.
