Professor Nikolai Ledentsov, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Institute of Physics was born in 1959 in St.Petersburg (Leningrad), Russia.

He has graduated in 1982 (with honors) the Electrical Engineering University of St. Petersburg and the same year started his scientific career at the Abraham Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute, St.Petersburg.

Since 2000 he is Chief Scientist at the Ioffe Institute and Deputy Head of the Laboratory of the Physics of Semiconductor Heterostructures (http://www.ioffe.ru/sem_tech/ ).
Prof. Ledentsov is Project Leader or Coordinator of multiple research projects with overall funding exceeding ten millions of US$ and a founder of two companies (NL-Nanosemiconductor GmbH, Germany, and PBC Lasers, Israel), which attracted altogether above US$ 20 million.

The main fields of expertise of Prof. Ledentsov are: epitaxial nanostructures and epitaxial nanophotonics., where he made major pioneering contributions, or founded the directions.

Prof. Ledentsov is Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Member of the Scientific Council of Abraham Ioffe Institute, Member of the Abraham Ioffe Prize Committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IoP), FIstP.

Prof. Ledentsov co-authored above 600 scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings. Overall citation index of Prof. Ledentsov exceeds 8000. He authored or co-authored three monographs and a large number of chapters in books.

Prof. Ledentsov contributed to numerous inventions and has ten granted US patents acquired by companies. Prof. Ledentsov is Member of Board of Directors of PBC Lasers, Israel.

Since 1995 Prof. Ledentsov made 65 invited or plenary talks at the leading international conferences, including 8 invited talks he made in 2006.
