Charef Harrats Ph.D.
Dr. Ing. Charef Harrats has joined the group of Polymer Technology in January 1st, 2006 under a Marie-Curie Intra-European Fellowship for Experienced Researchers. After obtaining his Engineer degree in Chemistry-Plastics from the Algerian Institute of Petroleum (Boumerdes, Algeria), he joined the Center for Education and Research on Macromolecules at the University of Liège in Belgium from where he obtained his PhD in Science-Macromolecular Chemistry in 1996. He spent a year as a post-doc at Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz (Germany ) in the Group of Profs. E. Fisher and M. Staam. From 1997 to 2005 he worked as assistant professor at KULeuven in the Laboratory of Macromolecular Structural Chemistry.Dr. Harrats has accumulated a broad expertise in dealing with polymers and polymer blends in industry as he carried out a large number of sponsored research as a project leader for industry. His field of qualification and research interests includes polymer blends, filled polymers and nano-composites mainly focusing on their phase morphology, physical properties and design. He is the main editor of a book entitled: Micro- and Nanostructured Multiphase Polymer Blend Systems : Phase Morphology and Interfaces (2006) and three Book Chapters in the area of polymer blends. His has also supervised about ten master and PhD thesis in polymer science and gave a condensed course entitled "Properties of Polymers : Physics and Mechanical Behavior " for maters students.
