The Ratner group research involves both the development of theoretical methods and their application to chemical systems of interest.

Ongoing research in seven major areas of chemistry:

1. Nonlinear optical response properties of molecules
2. Electron transfer and molecular electronics
3. Dynamics of polymer electrolyte transport
4. Self-consistent field models for coupled vibration reaction dynamics
5. Mean-field models for extended systems, including proteins and molecular assemblies
6. Photonics in nanoscale systems
7. Energetics of DNA/protein binding
