Biographical Sketch of Professor X. (A.) Sun

Dr Sun’s research is associated with materials science and surface science. Particular interests in his lab are concentrated on nanostructured materials, including carbon nanotubes and nanowires. They involve in synthesis, characterization and applications towards sensing technologies and energy conversion. An important aspect in his studies is to apply various modern characterization techniques such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning Auger microscopy (SAM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and electrochemical methods. His research is a mixture of fundamental studies and practical applications:

• Synthesis, characterization and applications of carbon nanotubes
• Synthesis, characterization and applications of nanowires
• Chemical, electrochemical, optical and biological nanosensors
• Fuel cells for clean energy
• Coatings and thin films for corrosion protection of materials
