Mars Mission Technology Appplied to Nanomaterials XRD Analysis

Description inXitu Inc. developer of materials analysis instruments chosen to fly on the upcoming Mars Science Laboratory rover, has developed industry-specific applications for Earth-bound nanoscientists. The device for analyzing nanoengineered materials features powder handling methods that can dramatically improve the quality of XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) data while reducing the requirements for sample preparation.

inXitu’s patented technique makes possible quality XRD data to be collected regardless of the grain size of the sample. Grain sizes up to 400 um have been tested producing data normally obtained with micron size particles.
